When A*****, a teenage girl, was referred to CPI by the Women Police Station for temporary on November 28, 2024, it seemed to be a routine family dispute. But as the days unfolded, A*****’s story revealed layers of abandonment, coercion, and deeply rooted neglect that no child should ever endure.
Even before A***** was born, her father had walked away from her mother. Shortly after her birth, her parents divorced, and her custody was handed to her maternal grandparents. With no father present and her mother pushed to the margins of her life, A***** was officially registered under her grandfather’s name, resulting in flawed documents that falsely listed her mother as her sister. This identity confusion haunted her for years.
Initially, her grandparents and maternal aunt provided care, but after her grandmother passed away and her grandfather became paralyzed, A*****’s world changed drastically. Her aunt, now in control of the household, began leaving for hours at a time—locking up her immobile father and leaving A***** alone, vulnerable, and deeply distressed.
When A*****’s mother, now remarried, tried to take her back, she was blocked by both the aunt and grandfather. A***** briefly lived with her mother, but this fragile peace was short-lived. In a shocking and painful twist, her aunt forcibly removed her and married her off to a man named Z*****. What followed was a month of abuse so severe that neighbours intervened. Under pressure, Z***** returned A***** to her aunt—only to be met with demands for divorce. Thrown out in torn clothes and emotional pieces, she was sent to another relative’s house.
There, A***** finally found a moment of safety to share her story. Her second aunt, alarmed by what she heard, reached out to other relatives. When Z***** began threatening A*****’s maternal uncle, the family acted, involving the police. That step brought her to CPI—and to a new beginning.
At CPI, A*****’s healing began. Over nearly three months, she was given safe shelter, psychosocial support, education, and space to rebuild her confidence. Through therapy, recreational activities, and education, she slowly began reclaiming her childhood. CPI also worked relentlessly with legal authorities to resolve her custody and identity documentation.
Eventually, the court granted custody to her biological mother. A***** was reunited with her in a stable and nurturing environment, where she now lives with her step-siblings and attends school. CPI has conducted regular follow-ups, and A***** has shown extraordinary resilience. Her progress is a powerful reminder of the impact of timely intervention, compassion, and a system that puts children first.
